Way back when I was told never to bring up politics and religion in conversation. Today politics is all but unavoidable and has polarized the country, families and friends. Emotions run high and anger deep. Each side claims the moral high ground and vicious attacks are seemingly justified.
Personally I never cared for politics. However, I find myself caught up in the rising intensity. I struggle not to give way to fear and lose sight of my spiritual purpose. I am determined to maintain loving relationships with family and friends regardless of political persuasion. It hasn’t been easy, despite my spiritual tools and vigilance. Yet I know if viewed properly this is an incredible opportunity for growth.
As is my way, I sat down and asked my Higher Self to give me guidance in the form of a letter and show me how to navigate this fear-filled terrain with grace, compassion, and love. I haven’t written a blog in two years yet I felt compelled to share it with you. I hope it blesses you with clarity and peace.
Dear Marguerite,
I know you are confused and concerned and questioning how to be, what to say, and what to do during these tumultuous times. You ask how your study of A Course in Miracles is relevant now and how to fully embrace the learning opportunity you know, you simply know, these times present you with.
Let’s review some of the basics, shall we?
– The Holy Spirit, the love within your heart, your real self (me!), your knowingness, looks upon the world and sees one of two things—brothers extending love or brothers calling for love—and in each case, only one response is asked of you and that is love.
– Love cannot enter this world except through you. That is why you came. I need your willingness for Me to use your mind, heart, eyes, ears, arms, and feet in service to truth. This is your divine purpose.
– Your mission is forgiveness: to see truly, to see with the eyes of love. This means seeing beyond appearances, however threatening and frightening they may seem. I do not ask you to act alone in this. I am here as your guide. Turn to Me and I will lead the way. I will give you clarity of vision, the words to speak, and direction for your actions.
– Surrender your resistance. You transcend judgement and fear and separation by acceptance. Accept what is and drop your story of what you want or need. Acceptance leads to understanding, which leads to appreciation…which leads to love.
– It’s not a question of either/or, right or wrong, good or bad; (republican or democrat!) embrace both. Everyone and everything have their places. When you accept the totality of what is, you honor and respect every expression of life and its common source.
– Focus attention on your reaction, not the situation or what a person says or does. They simply serve as the trigger (gift) that enables you to become aware of the blocks (opinions, beliefs, judgements) you’ve made to keep love from your awareness. If you see arrogance, seek where you are arrogant. If you see a lack of compassion, look for where you lack it. If you see an absence of integrity, ask where your integrity falls short. What you see “out there” is a reflection of what you think and harbor within and about yourself. Your “enemies” are your angels in disguise, nudging you to grow and to gather the seemingly separate pieces back into your self.
– Truth and illusion are mutually exclusive. There are no “right” positions in a dream and this world is a dream. There are no gray areas: you can’t have it both ways. In the world, any and all sides are the same…illusions denying truth. What appears as choice is no choice at all. Infinite choices lead you to distraction from truth. The real decision, which is where your power resides, is the choice between truth and illusion, between waking up and staying asleep. To see this choice clearly, rise above the battlefield. Resist the temptation to seek answers “out there” in the world. Every problem, every conflict, every hardship, is the same: an opportunity to turn within and make a choice for truth, and thus for love.
– Stay vigilant to your professed intention. Do you truly want to know Me? Then use every single thought, situation, and person presented to you every moment of every day to find and surrender opinions, judgements, and beliefs that deny my Presence.
– The law of cause and effect operates within your mind. They are together in the same place (here) at the same time: now. If you feel anything less than peaceful you are waging war against yourself and you exist in a state of inner conflict (effect), which in turn is a result of what you think (cause). Your power and freedom from pain lies in understanding this and in taking full responsibility for your thoughts. Therefore, “seek not to change the world, rather seek to change your mind about the world.” When you change the source (your mind) your internal and external experience change accordingly.
– You cannot fail. The Universe works for you, not against you. All is in Divine Order. There are no mistakes, no accidents, no coincidences. You chose this particular “classroom,” that is, your companions, time, place, personal circumstances, and world events for your soul’s growth. Please know you are unfolding perfectly and on time.
You are an angel of light sent to earth as a messenger of love and love is the way you walk in gratitude for the experience.

Hi Marguerite. You write so eloquently about such important issues. You are a real light in the world!. I don’t know if I ever mentioned that I am on my third reading of A Course in Miracles, thanks to you. You gave the book to Gary a long time ago. And over the years I return to it for inspiration. Yes…yes! As you know, I too have been grappling with my loss of peace when I rail against the illusion of political divisive in our country, and my arrogant attachment to the rightness of my perspective. It was a huge epiphany – and visceral relief – to awaken in the middle of the night with the realization that the ‘unconsciousness’ my ego witnesses ‘out there’ is really an invitation to heal those parts of me I judge ‘out there’ to be corrupt, evil, manipulative, self-serving, etc. Ugh. Fortunately my sense of awe at the sudden ‘grok’ of this was stronger than my concurrent sense of ….guilt? Disgust? But I quickly realized it as a gift…and an opportunity to forgive, removing yet more blocks to the gentle invitation to love myself…and all I perceive ‘out there’.

And fortunately for us too that your sense of awe was stronger than your sense of guilt. There is so much divisiveness in the World now and so many opinions and different truths out there that it can become overwhemling to decipher … who is telling the truth is there any truth ?
